Enhancing Purchase Card Training for the Department of Commerce

The Challenge

The Department of Commerce needed to update the training program for its purchase card community to ensure personnel had a strong understanding of Federal government obligations and departmental policies. The goal was to enhance employees’ skills in asset management, emphasizing effective purchase card practices and informed business decisions.

Our Solution

To address this need, we developed a course that incorporated real-world scenarios, gamified assessments, and a graphic novel design to create an engaging and immersive learning experience.

Key features of the training include:

Graphic Novel Design: By using a graphic novel format, we presented the content in a visually appealing and relatable way, capturing the learners’ attention and making the material more relatable.

Scenario-Based Learning: Relalistic scenarios contextualize the training, helping employees apply the knowledge to their daily tasks and understand the practical implications of their actions.

Gamified Assessments: Interactive, game-like assessments motivate learners to engage deeply with the material. This approach turned the learning process into a fun and challenging experience, promoting mastery through practice.

 

The Results

The updated training program ensures that the Department’s purchase card personnel are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage assets effectively, make smart business decisions, and comply with Federal obligations and departmental policies. We are now in final development for a follow-up (Quiz) game covering the same material.
